Suda Suda’s mission is to demystify the intimidating world of speciality coffee and making it approachable to both the connoisseurs and the average joes. Taking a firm stance on being an irreverent brand, the name ‘Suda Suda’ (a Tamil colloquialism that translates to ‘hot hot’) signals to customers that this isn’t your average speciality coffee roaster who is overly-serious and high-brow.
The visual identity and packaging design is heavily inspired by old-school Indian matchbox art, with loud colours and maximalist design sensibilities. Suda Suda is unabashedly fun, and unabashedly South Indian.

The packaging design marries the roaring visuals of old-school matchboxes with the intricacy and occult aesthetics of tarot cards. Suda Suda’s many brand motives and influences manifest as graphics and illustrations that form a visually dense tapestry for the customer to unpack.
Taking the matchbox aesthetics and South Indian heritage a step further, we proposed two form factors for the packaging—a container that looks like an actual matchbox, and a traditional South Indian metal storage tin.
